When you first move on board your boat for some offshore long-distance cruising, it can be tempting to fill every cabinet, every bilge, every empty pocket of space with stuff you think you cannot live without.

Alison Gieschen, half-way through a planned 10-year sailing odyssey around the globe with husband Dan, has learnt to gradually pare down all the stuff and realized that packing food should be approached with reason and practicality. In this month's INSIGHTS she shares what she has learnt and what are the best foods for bluewater sailing.
