Setting sail into a sustainable future: Lagoon's Eco update

by TMG Yachts 19 Jan 2024 21:24 UTC

At the Cannes Yachting Festival, Joe Fox from TMG Yachts unveils the latest eco updates from Lagoon, a trailblazer in the yachting industry.

Lagoon has consistently been at the forefront of innovation, introducing new products and systems across their range to enhance sustainability and reduce environmental impact.

Wind-powered progress

In a promising move towards greener navigation, a wind generator is making its debut on the Lagoon 51 at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Currently in a testing phase, this innovative product from Belgium aims to offer an eco-friendly option for trickle-charging batteries, diminishing the reliance on shore power or generators, particularly during remote operations.

Standardized water filtration

Starting January 1, 2024, all Lagoon boats leaving the factory will boast a standard water filtration system. This two-part system involves a fine micron filter followed by a UV light filtration system. Lagoon's commitment to reducing reliance on single-use plastics is evident, providing crystal-clear water directly from the tanks, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious boating experience.

Recycled materials throughout

Internally, Lagoon boats are now adorned with 100% recycled standard upholstery. The Code Zero, offered as an option from North Sales, and certain technical features on board are also crafted from 100% recycled materials. This concerted effort aligns with Lagoon's dedication to incorporating sustainable practices throughout their product offerings.

Innovative construction techniques

The construction landscape is evolving at Lagoon, with a shift towards eco-friendly materials. Bioreins, with some components containing up to 38% bioresin, are becoming a staple in smaller boat components. Recycled resins are also gaining prevalence. Notably, the introduction of woven roving incorporating up to 15% hemp fiber in some components showcases Lagoon's commitment to progressive and sustainable boat manufacturing.

ISO standards for sustainability:

Excitingly, all three Lagoon factories have now secured three of the most crucial ISO standards - sustainability, quality control, and energy consumption. This achievement underscores Lagoon's unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest environmental and quality standards across their production processes.

As we conclude this exploration of Lagoon's eco-friendly initiatives, we invite you to embark on a firsthand experience at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024. There, you'll have the opportunity to witness the marvels of Lagoon's innovative yachts, embodying the very essence of sustainability and efficiency.
