Parkstone Yacht Club are looking forward to hosting the UK Flying Fifteen Association Southern Area Championship kicking off the 2024 Championship Series.

With the event being the first World Championship Qualifier event for the 2025 Worlds at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy it is set to be a competitive weekend with 54 boats entered. Boats are coming from all over the county from the Lake District, many of the central lakes and the South Coast. The largest contingent comes from the home club with 22 boats taking part.

With five races planned over two days in the bay, and a competitors sailors supper on Saturday evening and afternoon tea before departure on Sunday.

The entry list includes, World Champions, European Champions, National Champions and regular club sailors.

Ones to watch include:

GBR 4126 - Ian Pinnell and Ian Cadwallader - Freshly crowned European Champions at the recent event in France.

GBR 4002 - Ben McGrane and Jamie Stewart - Current National Champion who made a welcome return in the 2023 season.

GBR 4060 - Andrew Jameson and James Grant - Possibly the best dressed crew in the fleet. A very much underrated pairing with the potential to surprise on and off the water.

GBR4116 - Shane MacCarthy & Richard Rigg - A multi-national team who are currently training in Ireland.

GBR4114 - Richard Whitworth & Trefor Jones - From the home team, having missed the 2023 Nationals in their new boat, they are definitely one to watch.

GBR4058 - Jon Gorringe and Kelly Arron - Also from the home team, but who are more often seen in a Merlin Rocket or RS400. Winners of Poole Week in 2023 this is their first Open Championship in the Fifteen.

Our thanks to our sponsors Salcombe Gin, Piddle Brewery, Hyde Sails, Goacher Sails and P&B.
