Despite the Red Sea being a no-go area for many vessels, 54 sailboats took the plunge this year during transit season - February to June - with most making a safe passage, according to a report from Dutch sailing magazine Zeilen. There were only 3 unsettling incidents.
The Maritime Telegraph report that satellite images showed an oil slick extending more than 125 miles n the Red Sea mid-July. The slick extended from about 60 miles NW of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah and continued northbound. It isn't clear which vessel caused the spill, or whether it was a direct result of a Houthi attack, but multiple ships, including a crude oil tanker, have been targeted in the region.
