Ramsgate Week 2024 at the Royal Temple Yacht Club - Day 3

by Karen Cox 15 Aug 2024 12:22 UTC 11-16 August 2024

Another sultry, sunny day dawned in Ramsgate for today's racing with all classes being started from our Race Hut.

Heading off on a spinnaker leg, the IRC classes got off to a dramatic, hotly contested start with nine boats within six boat lengths at the first mark. With fluky winds ranging from 5 to 16 knots, wind shifts, small, neap tides and a very calm sea, the sailing conditions were excellent but testing with the beat leg favouring those boats to the starboard side.

The winds were dying again as the fleet headed towards the finish with the spinnaker classes flying their colourful sails, giving those watching shoreside another spectacular show.

The course for Classes 5 and 6 was 8.16 NMs and Class 7 were sent on a shorter course of 6.20 NMs. It was a great race day for all classes with no retirements.
