J/70 Corinthian US National Championship at Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May - Day 1

by Julie & Christopher Howell 6 Sep 2024 23:59 UTC September 6-8, 2024

The J/70 Corinthian US National Championship began Friday hosted by Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May in New Jersey with 24 boats competing. Teams enjoyed winds from 8-12 knots on an ocean course, allowing three races.

Cate Muller-Terhune's Casting Couch with Jake Doyle, Mike Komar and John Loe book-ended two bullets plus a fourth for 6 points to take the early advantage. Edward Gary's Ayacucho notched scores in the top three for second place at 8 points. Jim Golden's Derecho is another two points back in third.

Following Muller-Terhune in the opening contest were Golden and Gary. Brian Keane's Savasana won the middle race, ahead of Scott Foxman's Relentless and Gary. Muller-Terhune closed Friday with a victory, while Gary and Golden again rounded out the top trio.

North Sails's expert Allan Terhune is on the water to observe racing and conduct daily debriefs ashore. Racing continues through Sunday.
