Falmouth Sailing Week 25 entries open

The Port of Falmouth Sailing Association has announced that online entries are now open for the biggest sailing regatta in the southwest, Falmouth Sailing Week 25.

Jane Wright, the Vice Chair of PoFSA writes that Falmouth Sailing Week is organised by PoFSA on behalf of Helford River Sailing Club, Mylor Yacht Club, Restronguet, Sailing Club, The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, St Mawes Sailing Club and Flushing Sailing Club. The dates are the 10th - 16th of August and that they are expecting to build on last years entries of 170 boats.

There will be two fleets racing simultaneously over the seven days. One in the Carrick Roads and the other in the world class racing waters of Falmouth Bay. 18 classes of boat from the humble Mirror dinghy to the IRC 1 racing yachts are available to enter. The iconic Falmouth Working Boats with their colourful topsails will be out in force too. It's quite a spectacle! All seven day entry, 3-Day series and a one off standalone, long-distance race are all available giving something for everyone.

8 MarkSetBots from ForthCape Ltd will be used for the Bay Fleet this year giving race management quick course adjustments and race turnaround times and also go someway to mitigating the impact of yacht racing on the environment.

This year sees the 70th Anniversary of the Champagne Race, now sponsored by Ancasta Boat Sales a long-distance race for the Bay Fleet that has been raced annually since 1955. The RAF aerobatic display team, the Red Arrows will be flying in their Hawk jets after the racing so this will make a great day out on the water on Wednesday the 13th of August.

The regatta kicks off with a Competitors' Briefing and Welcome Party at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club on the 9th of August. Regatta information, hospitality and music will be a great way to start a full week of racing. There will also be a new regatta HUB at the RCYC for skippers to use as a base throughout the week. Each of the yacht and sailing clubs will still host a regatta day and prize-giving goes ahead along with regatta teas after the racing each day.

We partner with the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust this year to raise funds and awareness for their work with giving young people opportunities to sail.

Other aspects to note are that there will be free entry for the junior skippers under 18 with a new overall trophy to be presented by Gill Marine. A 30% discount for competitors for any of the music events is a great bonus generously made available by our event partners, South West Bars and Events is on offer too. Initiatives such as crew matching are in the pipeline as we want to encourage more young people into the regatta and find out how fantastic yacht racing can be.
