The International Association of Cape Horners (IACH) is calling for nominations for new inductees to the Cape Horn Hall of Fame.
Organised by the International Association of Cape Horners (IACH), in partnership with Les Sables d'Olonne, the home of singlehanded sailing, public nominations for this year's intake closes on 30th May 2025. Anyone can nominate a Cape Horner of note simply by completing the online nomination form here.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Chairman of the Cape Horn Hall of Fame Selection Committee, says: "We are looking for Cape Horners past and present who have made a significant contribution to the sport of sailing, either solo or leading a crew around the world's most infamous Cape."
His committee, which includes French veteran sailor Jean-Luc van den Heede (deputy-chairman), American navigator Stan Honey, and fellow circumnavigators Dee Caffari (UK) Dilip Donde (India) and Archie Fairley (UK), will review each nomination and draw up a shortlist of names for a vote by members of IACH to determine the final six to be inducted to the 2025 Cape Horn Hall of Fame.
"The induction ceremony for the 2025 Cape Horn Hall of Fame is expected to take place in Portsmouth in late November (date to be announced), as part of the annual "Cape Horners" reunion lunch.
Archie Fairley, Chairman of IACH, adds "This is now an important event in the sailing calendar encouraging future generations to follow in the footsteps of their elders either cruising, or competing in an expanding calendar of events around Cape Horn that now includes the Golden Globe, Jules Verne Challenge, Ocean Globe, Solo Global Challenge and Vendée Globe events."
