Inaugural Cannes-Malta Race: Who will challenge the Maxi Black Jack?

by Yacht Club de Cannes 9 Aug 2025 09:43 UTC 8-15 October 2025

The winner in real time, in 2 days and 12 hours of the Rolex Fastnet Race at the end of July, the maxi Black Jack will compete in the first edition of the Cannes-Malta Race from 8 to 15 October, a new offshore race co-organised by the Yacht Club de Cannes and the Royal Malta Yacht Club, which have decided to join forces.

Owned by Dutch billionaire Remon Vos, a sailing enthusiast and racing under the colours of the Yacht Club de Monaco, Black Jack is a 100-foot (30.48 m) monohull designed by Reichel-Pugh architects. Skippered by Frenchman Tristan Le Brun, and led by a crew mainly made up of Dutch and French, some of whom cut their teeth in Cannes.

This new 600-mile (1100 km) event via the Strait of Bonifacio, the East of Sardinia and the West of Sicily is in line with the major nautical events such as the Rolex Fastnet Race, Sydney-Hobart, or the Rolex Middle Sea Race starting from Valletta (Malta) just after the Cannes-Malta. This brand new race is also welcoming all ORC boats, Class 40 and IMOCA.

Who will therefore challenge the Maxi Black Jack? Dreaming of a 2025 grand slam, the race also being played in corrected time according to the size of the boats and according to a corrected time!
