Firefly National Championship 2025 at Lyme Regis Sailing Club - Day 3

A slightly reluctant fleet were chivvied off the shore convinced there was no wind to find a very pleasant rolling sea and steady force 3. The race officer bang on time to use the best of the breeze got a clean gate away for a trapezoid course.

First beat leaders Chris and Jenny, Arthur Greaves and Emma Breese closely pursued by Angus and Lucie.

Same order by bottom mark with what felt like the whole fleet bearing down on them.

The sausage set off well but Steve Carver from Orcamet had warned the fleet that the shut down was coming. All was down the timing and unfortunately it arrived for the bottom of the last run. A very unpleasant game of snakes and ladders revealed the left at the top to pay, despite all logic saying go right. The fleet eventually made it up to the finish line on what was a beat.

Top 3:

  1. Oli and Hazel (appeared to have a motor when it went really light and fluffy)
  2. Alex and Stella (Super light super crew the way to go. All adult crews beware)
  3. Stuart and Lizzie (another Oppie legend pulling her dad forward).

The class would like to extend massive thanks to the 79th Tideway Firefly National Championships sponsors and supporters: Hyde Sails, Selden, Sailboat trailers, Marlow Ropes, South Coast Embroidery, Ovington Boats, Craftinsure and Tideway Wealth Management.
