On the morning of Monday, August 25, the yachts participating in the Aegean Regatta set sail for Agios Efstratios, in the 24th edition of the international sailing race that continues to make history across the beautiful Aegean Sea.

The curtain rose on the race on Sunday evening in Myrina, Lemnos, with the Opening Ceremony held in front of the Lemnos Town Hall. The Secretary General of the Aegean and Island Policy, Emmanouil Koutoulakis, welcomed the nearly 500 sailors competing in the Regatta, stressing that throughout the years, the Aegean Regatta has strengthened remote islands, connected sailors from Greece and abroad, and given everyone the opportunity to discover the unique beauty of the Aegean islands.

Greetings were also delivered by Eleonora Georga, Mayor of Lemnos, and Konstantinos Kalogeropoulos, President of the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation. Local products were offered, traditional dances were performed, and the evening culminated with the orchestra of V. Pitsikas presenting "Songs of the Aegean". Sailors and residents of Myrina danced hand in hand in a truly authentic Aegean-style celebration.

Participants in the Aegean Regatta experienced the renowned hospitality of Lemnos first-hand. During registration, each yacht crew received a gift package of local products (wine, venizelika sweets, flomaria pasta, rusks, etc.), while on Saturday there was a tasting of local recipes and wines, showcasing the rich cuisine of Lemnos.

The yachts will arrive in Agios Efstratios later on Monday, covering a distance of 21 nautical miles, where in the evening the prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the first leg will take place. On Tuesday, August 26, the fleet will set sail for Plomari, Lesvos, the longest leg of the Regatta, covering approximately 76 nautical miles.

The Aegean Regatta 2025 is organized by the General Secretariat of the Aegean & Island Policy, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, in collaboration with the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and the clubs: ASIATH Rhodes, LOIATH Mytilene, NO Samos, NO Chios, PEKEV Chios, with the Mytilene Sailing Club as the coordinating club for 2025.

The Regatta is co-organized by the Region of North Aegean, the Municipality of Lemnos, the Municipality of Agios Efstratios, and the Municipality of Mytilene, with the support of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
