Burnham Week 2025 - Day 4

by Petru Balau 27 Aug 10:13 UTC 23-30 August 2025

Strong winds and sunshine, with a storm passing through, the 4th day of Burnham Week 2025 saw fresh crews refill the ranks as the premier East Coast regatta goes on.

With two races scheduled, the Royal Corinthian One Design fleet, 7 boats strong, went first, with the boats neatly following each other, in an orderly line. Justin Waples, Cormorant, jumped the queue and snatched the win from Paul Buckley's Coryphee. For the second race the fleet was not that neatly packed, as half the fleet retired to the club, leaving Cormorant, Coryphee and Clive and Graeme Page's Corpo Santo to battle for the win, with Coryphee emerging as the winner and leader of the Mid Week table.

11 boats lined up for the combined classes 1 & 2, 5 and 6 start. Dan Wastage's Santa Evita got the win for the class 1 & 2, with Phil Collard's Cobra winning the class 5, while Phillip Harbott's Mantra won the class 6.

The International Dragons started next, with the two top boats fighting it, neck in neck, all the way to the end, as Mark Wade's Avalanche took the win from Andy Moss's Hands Off.

With 20 boats registered for the Mid Week part of the regatta, the Squibs were yet again the largest fleet on the water, with no less than 17 boats present at the start. Micky Wright and Alex Porteous won what proved to be quite a challenging race, with boats constantly jockeying for positions.

Five out of the six registered East Coast One Design boats lined up for the ECOD start. David Smith's Wizard emerged as the winner, with Ian Wilson's Widgeon being the runner up.

The last to start and probably wishing they started either earlier or later, to miss the passing through storm, the Royal Burnham One Design class saw 7 boats lined up for the start, with Ciara Murphy, helming Quartz, becoming the youngest helm to get a win at this year's regatta.

Wednesday has more races scheduled, both for the keelboats and the dinghies, with the Burnham Sailing Club's John Torrance Trophy promising an outstanding display of sailing in front of the three Burnham clubs.
