28-31 August 2025
A fantastic entry of over 104 RS Aeros have converged ay Weymouth & Portland NSA for the RS Aero UK National Championship & International Open. This year it is great to see a large contingent of 7 RS Aeros from the Isle of Man and International visitors from Belgium, Netherlands, France and Australia.
Portland Harbour provided the perfect race area for excellent high wind racing to start the champs with an average breeze around 25kn and gusts over 30kn recorded during racing. 2 good races were achieved on Day 1 before the race officer sent the fleet home as 36kn gusts buffeted the committee boat, spilling his tea.
The largest Class this year are the RS Aero 5s with 54 competitors and has achieved gender parity with 50% male/female. Reigning champ Andrew Frost (Sutton Bingham) is tied for the lead with Joe Jones (Burghfield) each with a 1,2. There is also a tie for 3rd with Teddy Dunn (Isle of Man) and Tom Wharmby (Lym Town) scoring a 3,4 each.
The ever-popular RS Aero 6 is also tied (3 ways!) at the top with Jack Miller (Felpham) and Jon Emmett (Castle Cove) having 1,3 and Joe Scurrah (Notts County) on 2,2.
The RS Aero 7 loved the brisk conditions, wild reaches and technical runs. Tim Hire (RLym/Lym Town) leads with 1,1 from Peter Barton (Lym Town) in 2nd, Noah Rees 3rd and Mark Ripley (Painton) in 4th.
The RS Aeros 9 s enjoyed exciting close racing in the L/XL fleet. Ben Flower (Paignton) leads Rory Cohen (South Cerney) by just 2 points.
Four races are planned in Portland Harbour for a big DAY 2 with a fresh, but not frightening, forecast promising another great day on water.
In the evening, after racing is the Daily Awards and Top-Tips, followed by the UK Class' annual AGM before the fleet retires for sustenance at Mia's Lounge where the RS Aero Class has booked out every seat in the restaurant!
Thanks to Rooster for their support of the prizes and to RTS Sailing with supplying a charter fleet and event support.
