The third day of racing at the Formula Windsurfing Foil World Championships, organized by Circolo Surf Torbole under the authority of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), brought the fleet to a total of 15 races completed in three days, thanks to excellent wind conditions that made up for the opening day with no wind.
This morning, after gathering at 8:00 am, the expected northerly breeze failed to stabilize, forcing competitors and the race committee to remain ashore. Luckily, the southerly Ora filled in shortly after midday, allowing another six races to be completed (three before and three after the break), with wind ranging from 12 to 16 knots - perfect for spectacular starts and high-speed upwind mark roundings.
Germany's Fabian Wolf has been the undisputed dominator: with 12 wins in 15 races and a net score of 12, the world title now seems firmly in his grasp. Behind him, Austria's Theo Peter showed great consistency, scoring three consecutive second places today to secure provisional second overall. Denmark's Frederic Ramsgaard also impressed with solid performances, including two third places, keeping him firmly in the top group.
Just off the podium and tied on 52 points are Spain's Fernando Martinez del Cerro - first among the Masters - and Switzerland's Justas Katkus, engaged in a close fight for the top spots. Among the youth, Germany's Levi Suemmchenleads the Youth division, while Italy's Davide Scarlata (Circolo Surf Torbole) confirms himself as best Junior. Poland's Laura Urbanski continues to lead the women's ranking.
Tomorrow, Saturday 13 September, the first warning signal is scheduled for 12:00, with the last possible start at 17:00. Up to six more races are on the program, which could bring the championship total to 21 races. The day will decide the world titles in the overall, Senior and Master categories, in what promises to be a thrilling grand finale.
