The second annual Drummoyne Cup, held on Sunday, 21 September, kicked off the 2025-26 sailing season in spectacular fashion, celebrating community spirit and competitive sailing at Drummoyne Sailing Club.
The event saw more than 70 boats registered, with sailors from across all Drummoyne classes - Yachts, 16ft Skiffs, Sabots, Flying 11s, Cherubs, OK Dinghys and WASZPs - sharing the waterway in a lively series of races. The Club was also thrilled to welcome visiting competitors from Hunters Hill Sailing Club, Lane Cove 12ft Skiff Sailing Club, Balmain Sailing Club, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, further adding to the camaraderie and competition on the day.
Racing took place in light westerly conditions, and while many wished for a little more breeze, the sunshine and gentle wind made for enjoyable sailing and a wonderful day on the water. Following racing, competitors gathered back at the Sailors Bar for the presentation, where cheese platters, good company, and plenty of laughter created the perfect atmosphere for sharing stories and celebrating achievements across the fleets.

- Yacht Division 3: Lin Evans & crew - Sassy
A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who made the day possible. Special recognition goes to Jeff Finnegan, Ivan Fitzgerald, and Alex Palmer as the organising committee, and to Kate Thompson, and Jimmy Beck along with Alex Palmer, for running the start boats.
The Club also extends its thanks to all support boat drivers, beach marshals, and canteen helpers who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. The collaboration between sailors and volunteers on the day perfectly embodies the spirit of Drummoyne Sailing Club, where everyone comes together to support one another and share in the joy of sailing.
Planning is already under way for the third Drummoyne Cup, scheduled for Sunday the 20th of September 2026, with the goal of further expanding the event. The Club aims to see 100 boats on the start line next year, along with live entertainment following the day's racing.
All clubs are encouraged to join us in 2026 and be part of this fun and inclusive annual event.
