Fremantle Sailing Club has officially released the Notice of Race for the 2026 Australian Women's Match Racing Championship, with requests for invitations now open for teams wishing to compete in this year's national event.

The championship will take place 10-13 September 2026 on the waters off Fremantle, bringing together some of Australia's most talented female match racing sailors for one practice session and three days of high-intensity competition.

Up to 12 teams will be invited to compete in the World Sailing Grade 3 event, which will be contested in a fleet of Elliott 7s, Australia's premier match racing class. Known for their tactical responsiveness and close-quarters racing, the boats deliver fast-paced, spectator-friendly action close to shore.

Following the success of the 2025 championship, which saw Fremantle's Nia Jerwood and her team claim the national title on home waters, the 2026 edition promises another exciting showcase of elite women's sailing.

Applications now open

Fremantle Sailing Club is now accepting Requests for Invitation from teams wishing to compete.

Up to twelve skippers will be selected to race in the championship, with invitations issued by the organising authority following the application process.

Application deadline: 10 June 2026

Teams can read the full Notice of Race and submit their Request for Invitation via the official event website: www.awmatchracing.com

Supporting women in sailing

The Australian Women's Match Racing Championship continues to play an important role in supporting pathways for women in sailing, providing a national platform for both emerging and elite sailors to compete at the highest level.

Fremantle Sailing Club is proud to host the event again in 2026, reinforcing Fremantle's reputation as a hub for high-performance sailing and women's sport.

The event is proudly supported by the City of Fremantle, which has committed funding support for the championship across both the 2025 and 2026 editions, recognising the event's contribution to the local sporting and tourism landscape.

Get involved

As planning for the championship continues, Fremantle Sailing Club is inviting members, businesses and the wider community to become involved in the event.

Opportunities include:

Sponsors

Businesses interested in supporting women's sport and high-performance sailing are encouraged to explore sponsorship opportunities for the championship.

Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to delivering events of this scale, both on and off the water.

Billet Hosts

Members who are able to host visiting sailors or officials are invited to assist by offering accommodation during the event.

Those interested in supporting the championship are encouraged to contact the Club for further information.

Fremantle Sailing Club looks forward to welcoming competitors, officials, volunteers and spectators to Fremantle this September for another outstanding edition of the Australian Women's Match Racing Championship.
