Marine electronics specialist A+T Instruments has launched the
HFD5. Designed as a direct, drop-in replacement and upgrade to the B&G H5000 display, the HFD5
addresses an important gap in the market for those who rely on this display size.
Like all A+T
displays, the HFD5 is tougher and better than the competition.
Tougher
The HFD5 is fully submersible and oven-tested to 75°C for 24 hours. A+T understand that
touchscreens have shorter lifespans and can fail in extreme conditions, so use a rugged, button
driven interface with magnets and proximity sensors, ensuring reliability for offshore and high-performance sailing.
Software updates are administered wirelessly via built-in Wi-Fi,
eliminating physical data ports that are vulnerable to water ingress.
Better
The HFD5 features a full colour transflective display, so the stronger the sunlight, the better the
definition. The display supports portrait and landscape orientations, and enables advanced
formatting like analogue-style gauges, historical graphing, and dedicated bar graphs for load
cells or temperature tracking.
Easier
Upgrading to a HFD5 requires no structural modifications, as it fits perfectly into the existing
H5000 display cutout. The CANbus (N2K compatible) version of the HFD5 plugs directly into the
existing cables with standard Micro-C connectors on any N2K system, allowing yachts to
upgrade their helm or mast displays without replacing their entire instrument system.
An ethernet version of the HFD5 will be available shortly, which we recommend for new-build
installations.
What They Say
"As a focused, agile business, we can adapt quickly to fill critical gaps in the market," said Pete
Simmonds, Head of Sales at A+T Instruments.
"We give product development the attention to
detail it deserves, tailoring the specification to match what our customers need. In this case,
we focused on developing a 5" display that was not only a replacement for a discontinued
display, but something that was better; tougher and with a higher specification."
Simmonds added: "Our founders understand how severe marine environments degrade
electronics, and so these products are built to last. Every unit is rigorously tested before
shipping. We back this build quality with a standard three-year warranty, but our underlying
mantra is exceptional support."
Availability and Installation
Shipments started in June 2026, and the HFD5 is available to order. For product enquiries,
orders, or technical data sheets, visit the product's dedicated landing page.
