Saturday 11th July saw the 95th edition of the classic Round The Island race... What a day it was! 799 official entries enjoyed glorious sunshine and a stiff breeze.
Dell Quay had several boats taking part including our current Commodore and Rear Com Sailing, Sarah and Peter Haig racing Nokomis a Sigma 362 - Great to get Peter out on his first RTI, perfect conditions for a first timer!
Andrew Buchanan, John Douglas and Claire Goldsmith on Spirit of Scott Bader (amazing charity offering Ro-Ro disability clients the opportunity to sail, crew and helm this catamaran operated and run by Gwenilli Sailing Trust) and big well done finishing second in class! Amazing result and 21st overall (multihull line honours) www.gwennili.org.uk
Peter Whitmore-Jones and crew aboard his Parker 27 No Dramas enjoyed their day double handed with David who was also a first timer - well done gents!
Peter Binning and children Charlotte, Rex and Juju plus friends aboard English Rose their Contessa 32. a massive well done finishing 25th in ISC overall (over 200 entries!) Loving the kite affectionally known as The Four Fingered Lady!
Our former Commodore Mark Moranne and has crew of Jon Wilburn and Serge Braconi aboard Marks new to him Westerly Consort USHA, they had a fun day but decided to retire to the bar as the yard arm was closing in on 1800... might also have had something to do with 25knt on the nose too!
Also attending this year was Colin Pullenger on Artful Dodger a Hunter Delta 25 coming in 4th place in the ISC 8B class! Well done!
A great day and many salty tales to be told over the winter I'm sure! Well done Team DQ, a great effort all round!
