YHYSA Travellers at Huddersfield Sailing Club

by Jenny Bailey (Rotherham SC) 15 Apr 2003 15:09 UTC

12th April

An enthusiastic turnout of 31 boats turned up for the start of the Trident-UK Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Travellers series on 12th April. Many new competitors were welcomed along with those who have sailed in the series before.

The wind was light and the racing started after a half hour postponement. Chris Duffin in his Laser immediately took the lead and led the way until the race was abandoned due to the light, shifty wind. After lunch the racing started for a second time. The wind was still quite light but it gradually increased as the first race developed. The Vernons won the race followed by Alex Good and Nicki Smith in the RS 200 in second place, Tom Pitchforth came third in his Laser.

The wind filled in a little more for the second race although it was still very shifty. Alex and Nicki in the RS 200 won the race followed by the Vernons in their RS 200 and Chris Duffin in his Laser.

The third race was slightly breezier although the wind speed was still only 10/12 mph and was closely sailed. It was won by Alex and Nicki. The race was exciting and with close racing especially in the toppers although Natalie Hood left the other toppers at the start. Alex and Nicki won again followed by Daniel and Sean in their RS 200.

Thanks to Richard and Adi Benson for organising the series and Huddersfield SC for hosting this event.
