Volvo, Extreme 40 and the latest Australian sailing news

by Rob Kothe & the Sail-World Team on 6 Oct 2014
Volvo Ocean 2014-15 Inport Race in Alicante Rick Tomlinson / Team SCA
The Volvo Ocean Race Inport race in Alicante, attracted huge attention on Saturday, (you can watch the full replay on Sail-World now). Sail-World has been in Alicante all week and we have hours of interviews, which will be released this week and in weeks ahead.

Sail-World interviewed the winning skipper American sailor Charlie Enright from Alvimedica at length in the lead up to the race. We talked to Will Oxley, Townsville’s best known sailor, who is the high profile navigator on Alivimedica too and we will bring you that interview in the coming days.

Jedda Murphy from Sail-World was on Team SCA during the practice race ahead up to the Inport race and we will bring you her images and story in the next few days. We will be on the water in Alicante for the start of Leg One next Saturday, Alicante to Capetown.

Extreme Sailing Series 2014, Act seven, Nice - Nathan Wilmot and his semi-Australian GAC Pindar crew found the light winds in Nice challenging, but they finished on the podium eight times in the penultimate Act of the Extreme Sailing Series (2-5 October) to finish in sixth place – in their best overall finish in this year’s series. GAC Pindar started the week strongly, finishing in second twice and in third, to end Day one in fourth position on the leader board.

GAC Pindar ended Act seven with a second place finish on Day four, showing signs of promise ahead of the final Act that will see Nathan Wilmot’s crew race in Sydney (11—14 December) as the Extreme Sailing Series reaches its conclusion on Sydney Harbour.

Great regatta reporting from John Curnow on the Queensland Etchells titles. John sets a high standard for sailing event reporting in Australia, insightful sailing commentary and great photography.

Lots more news from the Australian and world sailing scene this week.
