SCIBS heralds the start of the Australian boat show circuit

Running from 21 to 24 May, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) heralds the start of the Australian boat show circuit. It’s the litmus test of the industry and consumer sentiment, and for 27 years, SCIBS has been the ultimate showcase for the world’s best leisure and lifestyle products.

From the tiniest cleat to bona fide superyachts, the latest in deck shoes and offshore apparel, dive scooters, destinations, or refrigeration solutions that don’t harm the environment, you will find the latest, greatest and most innovative products on show at the Boat Show.

You don’t even have to buy a boat, you can dip a toe in with a plethora of options such as syndication, club membership, charter, learn to sail programs or just jumping onboard to crew on a twilight sail at your nearest yacht club.

“SCIBS has a history of showcasing the most innovative in Australian and international boating products for consumers, as well as being a vital B2B and trade event for marine companies to meet their dealers, suppliers, partners and colleagues,” says Boat Show General Manager Johan Hasser.

“That’s why, year after year, SCIBS attracts 40,000 visitors seeking inspiration for the boating lifestyle.”

This year, along with motoryachts and sailing boats on show, the fully refurbished motoryacht Corroboree will launch her luxury charter yacht operations, aiming to show visitors the varied delights of chartering your own luxury vessel for business or pleasure.

This Lloyds Shipyard-built classic long-range cruising yacht has been completely refitted and is the ideal platform for world exploration.

As Captain Jack Brenac explains: “Corroboree has been rebuilt from her hull up, with top quality fittings and fixtures, all modernised technology and navigation systems.”

Her high-tech upgrades include a full-time gyro and four-fin NAIAD system for the ultimate stability while at rest and underway, and in communications, her KVH domes provide high speed internet from the “Antarctic to Arctic”, with global coverage, plus an advanced entertainment system controlled by iPad from every cabin on board.

Her interiors demonstrate that the owner spared no expense on the refit. While retaining the original timber work which conveys her heritage, Pacific Trim infused Corroboree with contemporary elements, in a rich palette using deep greys and neutrals, with touches of ochre to evoke the outback in linens and leathers, some with emu skin texture.

And of course, no charter is complete without the full complement of tenders and toys. “We have jet skis and scuba gear, fishing and SUPs and we are still adding more!”

Corroboree’s owner, an astute collector of Aboriginal art, realised the charter market appeals to time-poor professionals seeking to merge business and leisure.

“The name means ‘meeting place’, as Corroboree is set up for business and corporate charters, as well as for extended family and friends who wish to stay connected while cruising.”

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show General Manager, Johan Hasser, says they are thrilled to have Corroboree launching its charter operations at SCIBS.

“Luxury charter is yet another way for visitors to enjoy the marine lifestyle. Charter offers newcomers to boating and seasoned boaties alike the chance to experience five-star accommodation and service while exploring picturesque destinations around Australia and the world.”

From long-time exhibitor Nitro Marine, the Blue Fin Discovery 4.25 Plate Runabout is one of the 16 models the dealer will have on display at SCIBS this year.

The Discovery range of runabouts is ideally suited to cruising around the bay or a day trip for the whole family to your favourite fishing spot.

The clean uncluttered layout with comfortable upholstered seats tucked behind the wrap around windscreen makes the Discovery a fun, stable and dry ride.

Great for fishing, skiing and tubing, the Blue Fin Discovery 425 has a length overall of 4.38m and can be towed and stored in the narrowest of garages.

“The driveaway package from Nitro includes safety gear, registrations, a bimini top for shade, a Lowrance GPS and CHIRP fishfinder system, LED navigation and cockpit lights, a Gussi steering wheel to name a few,” says Michael Waugh from Nitro Marine.

“This great runabout is powered by Mercury’s latest four stroke EFI 40HP outboard which provides reliable, clean and fuel efficient power to this great little package.”

The usual price for this model is $22,400 but the “show special” price is $19,990, plus a gift card of $200 to sweeten the package.

Jet Ski boats Australian launch at SCIBS

This year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will see the launch of Jet Ski Boats Sealver range of Wave Boats from France.

The Wave boats are unique in that they combine a Ski Boat and a Jet Ski. The Jet Ski simply connects to the boat as its source of power – and can be disconnected for the Jet Ski to be used independently.

The Wave Boat can be used for up to six people, so rather than everyone else being stuck on shore while the jetskier has all the fun, the fun can be enjoyed by everyone.

Martin French, director of Jet Ski Boats Australia says he is thrilled to be launching the Sealver Wave Boat range at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

“We know the Wave Boat is going to be hugely popular,” Martin says. “And we are so excited to get it out there.

“We have experienced the boats ourselves and they are fantastic. Whether they are in calm waters or two-metre waves, the Wave Boat handled each situation with ease.

“Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is the perfect place to launch the Saelver.”

Award winning Seabung at SCIBS

Ocean Solutions will be displaying the award winning Seabung at this year’s Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. Voted the best new invention at the recent METS show in Amsterdam, Seabung ables you to maintain your seacocks regularly whilst on the water.

Often we sadly neglect the maintenance of our skin fittings due to the time and expense involved. Appearances can be deceptive and what we perceive to be a clean and effective seacock could be a dangerously corroded accident waiting to happen.

Underwater fitting failure is responsible for 50% of moored boat sinkage. Such a small piece of equipment as a seacock or hose can be responsible for huge amounts of damage.

Seabung introduces a quick and simple way to schedule this critical job into your routine safety checks. No need to haul out for inspections with Seabung as it plugs fittings while afloat allowing you cost effective repair or replacement. Remove and re-use whenever.

Seabung is also an essential emergency device, outperforming the traditional wooden bung in speed, ease of use and permanence of application.

Australian Superyacht and Marine Export Conference – ASMEX

Delegates to the 2015 Australian Superyacht and Marine Export Conference (ASMEX) conference will hear from some of the industry’s top talent and, unique to ASMEX, have the opportunity to network with them.

Preceding SCIBS, 19 and 20 May at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, ASMEX is the region’s premier industry event.

Representing the US, Europe, Asia, NZ and Latin America, the high calibre lineup for the 2015 event includes Martin Redmayne, Chairman of The Superyacht Report; Andy Treadwell, Managing Director, Singapore Yacht Show; Marnix Hoekstra, Creative Director, Vripac; Paris Baloumis, Group Marketing Manager, Oceanco; Wally Castro, Founder, Wally Castro; Alice Huisman, Managing Director, Royal Huisman; John McCurdy, Managing Director (UK), Pantaenius; Steve Fisher, Rivergate Marina and Shipyard; and Steve Sammes, General Manager, Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard.
CEO of AIMEX/Superyacht Australia, MaryAnne Edwards described ASMEX as “the only platform providing opportunities for industry to gain up to date information on the state of the industry and where current opportunities exist to drive business”.

“For exhibitors at SCIBS, all our speakers and delegates are potential buyers.”

From the Netherlands, Paris Baloumis, Oceanco Group Marketing Manager said he is eager to share his company’s ethos and absorb some new-world thinking.

“The superyacht industry has tradition and history but the marine industry cannot rely on old-fashioned precepts about how things work. Australia is a fantastic resource for the superyacht community as well as a coveted destination for adventuresome superyachts. Oceanco builds go-anywhere superyachts and several of our owners are traveling further afield than the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Down Under is definitely on the radar screen for owners who seek a new experience.”
