Sails are beautiful! As works of art, craft, and science, they are rich in history yet evolving with modern materials and our understanding of fluid dynamics. Sails deliver a practical and magical connection with wind and sea; they inspire and inform us in our adventures, discoveries, and dreams. The Calgary Chapter is thus delighted to invite you to spend a day with sailmaker and cruiser, Carol Hasse, enhancing your knowledge and understanding of sails.

With photos, drawings, and sample sails, Carol will discuss the following:
• Anatomy and vocabulary of sails and rigging
• Specifics of sail geometry and shape
• Definitions and advantages of various rigs
• Offshore sail inventory and handling
• Basic sail trim and trim tools
• Storm sails and heavy weather tactics
• Sail construction details including sailcloth and hardware
• Basic sail repair and ditty
