The new Hanse 630e, the largest production series sailing yacht ever built in Germany, has just hit the water for the first time. Hanse’s new flagship was presented to invited experts during the annual dealers meeting that took place recently on the Baltic waters in front of the Hanse plant in Greifswald.

'Powerful, fast, sleek, elegant, safe, strong, futuristic. Simplicity at it's best the new Hanse 630e is Hanse's new flagship,' says Windcraft's Peter Hrones.

The clean hull lines and neat and tidy deck with halyards, control lines and sheets hidden, hydraulic-electric jib furler and the self-tacking jib embedded in the bow, are the most obvious features of the luxurious Hanse 630e that takes it’s place in the premium yacht segment of the market. The high quality windows and flush hatches in the cabin roof add style and panache to this first-class yacht.

The deck arrangement is not only an optical bonus but offers a strong practical benefit; all essential functions are easy to operate from the helm.

This allows safe and fast sailing of the Hanse 630e even with small crew. ‘Ease of use,’ is the Hanse design team’s guideline.

During development of the Hanse 630e special attention was paid to optimum sailing performance: A T-shaped keel and a high performance steering system with self aligning rudder bearings provide pure feeling and fast and balanced sailing in all conditions. This was confirmed by all participants at the dealer meeting, who did not miss the opportunity of a very first test sail on this brand new boat. As an option a lifting keel is available, varying the draft between 7’2' and 11’7'.

The state of the art rig with it’s mast and swept back spreaders and maximum externally positioned shrouds further support the excellent sailing characteristics and improve the Hanse 630e strength properties on a large scale. Combined with carbon fibre reinforced chainplates, space availability below deck is improved and results in maximum utilisation of comfort.

The premium claim of the new Hanse flagship is enhanced with four optional cabin combinations: high-quality material like Corean on all work spaces and noble wooden surfaces which are standard features.

Partly free-standing, adjustable leather chairs provide convenience which is new for this type of yacht.

The straight and light-colored interior is the characteristic attribute of Hanse's successfull design-philosophy. A special feature is the free-standing working space in the pantry.

With the base price of AUS$1,650.000, Hanse Yachts again sets a benchmark in terms of price-performance-ratio. And it is built in Epoxy!

Although Hanse has made its name as a Cruising Yacht builder, the founder Michael Schmidt, known affectionately on the sailing scene as 'Schmiddel' is a highly regarded German racing sailor, having been the keystone of Germany’s 1985 Admirals Cup win with a boat designed by his long term friends at Judel/Vrolijk.

Schmidt had already successfully founded a major European yacht brokerage group when in 1992 he started Hanse Yachts at Greifswald, in the former East Germany. Thirteen years later, it's now the second largest yacht manufacturer in Germany and the fourth largest in Europe.

One of the cornerstones of the Hanse growth has been the strength of the yacht design, not unsurprisingly from the German/Dutch design team Judel/Vrolijk Engineering.

Friedrich Judel have had success in earlier days with famous boats like 'Dusselboot', 'Pinta', 'Outsider' and 'Rubin' and his design partner Rolf Vrolijk designed the Swiss yacht 'Alinghi'- Americas Cup winner in New Zealand.

In August 2005 Windcraft, based on Pittwater in Sydney, was selected as Dealer of the Year outside Europe and now Windcraft has been further rewarded with Distributorship responsibility for the South Pacific and South Asia.

Peter Hrones explained how it happened. 'Hanse has been growing at around about 150% a year, mainly with the bigger boats and now every 2 hours and 40 minutes a boat is completed.

‘Hanse’s sales orders in our third of the world have been extremely good in the last 18 months and we have now appointed our fifth and latest regional dealer in French Polynesia. We also have a number more of appointments we are expecting to make in 2006.

‘We have been asked on numerous occasions from both prospective buyers and owners what the resale value is like on Hanse Yachts. It has been commented that it is very high in Europe since the mid 90’s, but we’ve now completed an analysis of the Australian figures which show great strength in this area.

'Interestingly, less than 10% have come back onto the market second hand over the last six years and many of the owners that have sold have upgraded to a larger Hanse and with the new 630e, we expect to see that progression continuing.'.
