Fresh Sou westers provided exciting sailing for the Zephyr North Island and Auckland Champs held over three days at Manly Sailing Club Friday 16. Sat 17 and Sunday 18 April.
23 Boats from Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton and Wellington took part. Friday, gusts to 28 knots provided some exciting reaches and the odd capsize. Saturday and Sunday moderating winds meant close sailing with often 6 or 7 boats attempting mark roundings at the same time. Kelcey Gager after a long absence from the class showed he still has the pace. Sailing in his home waters he won the regatta from Tim Sneddon and Steve Pyatt. The Masters 55 to 50 age group was won by Tim with Richard Wilson second.
The Masters 60+ age group was won by Murray Sargisson, Bruce Hopwood second and Colin Maddren third.
