It is amazing to think that seven years ago, Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa didn’t even exist.

The five-star hotel, which is a popular holiday destination, was built on reclaimed land in Pulau Duyong to be the home of the Monsoon Cup – the season-ending race on the World Match Racing Tour – but it has grown to be more than just the venue for the most prestigious race in Match Racing.

Located close to Kuala Terengganu and its international airport, Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa has successful hosted the Monsoon Cup for the last five years and is gearing up for the sixth edition of the event from Nov 30-Dec 5. Its General Manager, Abdul Shaheed Yusoff, said the resort will hire 250 part time staff during the Monsoon Cup.

“We made our name as the home of the Monsoon Cup but over the years, people have come to realise just what a magnificent holiday destination Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa is,” said Shaheed, who took over as the General Manager 18 months ago.

“Our success as a popular holiday destination is linked to the success of the Monsoon Cup. We proved we can handle the huge crowds who turn up for the Monsoon Cup and cater to their needs. We usually hire about 250 part timers during the event, and this in turn helps the local residents and students who are in search of pocket money and experience in the service industry. In fact, a few of our permanent staff started as part timers during the Monsoon Cup.”

Being the only five-star resort in Terengganu and the only one with its own marina, Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa offers a traveller various river cruises and private excursions.

“We also own several boats for river cruises but if guests want to go to some other islands, we can accommodate the request,” said Shaheed, who is an avid sailor as well, and was part of the Ri-Yaz team who won the Heritage Bay Cup – a sailing event for locals – last month.

“In short, I guess you can say we offer a guest everything they need under one roof. “

A look inside the Spirit Yachts yard
A close look at what makes their yachts unique Traditional skills in boatbuilding could be regarded as a lost art from a bygone era. In the world of fibreglass and carbon, the joinery and laminating techniques of wood ribs and cedar strips are a thing of the past.

Jazz Turner explains more about Project FEAR
She will leave the wheelchair behind to sail unassisted around the British Isles for charity I caught up with Jazz Turner, who cited "the pure freedom I get when on the water" as the most important thing to her. Most of us sailors can appreciate that, but what we cannot really empathise with is being told you may only have 6 months to live.

Boat building is quite happy to hand out Degrees from the University of Hard Knocks at will It's not an easy thing, this boat building caper. Time to nerd out a bit
Possibly a big bit, as it turns out. Historically we know I am up for it, but how about you? Possibly a big bit, as it turns out. Anyway, historically we know I am up for it, but how about you? Right oh. Unequivocally, the greater electrification space is not just THE hot topic presently, it also changes at a prodigious rate.
