Enterprise Open at Deben Yacht Club

For the second year in succession blue sails returned to the River Deben in Suffolk and for the second year in succession the weather was awful! One home boat was joined by visitors from five clubs in the Broads and Eastern area which was an excellent turnout with a windy forecast which unfortunately proved to be correct.

PRO Ben Alexander set a triangular course in the aptly named Troublesome Reach just under Kyson Point and the fleet made their way down to the racecourse from the club in spectacular fashion in a steady force five with nasty gusts up to force seven. Gear failure and a lee shore caught out a number of competitors before the start of the first race and only three boats started. By the end of the race only Richard and John Salisbury from Beccles and Phil and Laura Bevan from Grafham were still upright and racing, a feat made even more remarkable by Laura’s tender years. These were the only boats that came to the line for the remaining two races and the final result was as follows:

Overall Results:

1st E22439 Floozy, Phil and Laura Bevan (Grafham Water S.C.)
2nd E21862 Agapanthus, Richard and John Salisbury (Beccles ASC.)
