Sailing for Parkinson's sets a course for home

Poppy Moore and her East Coast 31 'Scaramouch' set sail more than 12 months ago circumnavigating Australia to raise money and awareness of Parkinson's. And on May 12, Poppy will be coming home.
Poppy's father was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2006 and she wanted to do something to raise funds for Parkinson's NSW, with an aim to raise $12,000. "I'm so pleased that I have already raised my target of $12,000!"
Over the past 14 months, Poppy has explored much of the Australian coastal regions learning about the Australian and indigenous cultures along the way, "I've stopped in 106 different locations, which I had never sailed into before, I've had 18 crew members several of whom has never sailed but they wanted to help out the cause."
Poppy goes on to say "The coast of Australia is stunning and we visited remote Islands during the turtle breeding season, we were escorted by whales, dolphins and the odd crocodile down the coast! It has been a great journey so far and quite a challenge."
At the end of her journey, Poppy will have sailed in excess of 8,000nm or 15,000 kilometres around Australia.

Members of the media and the general public are invited to welcome Poppy home on Saturday May 12, 2018. There will be a number of yachts greeting Poppy at the headlands with the flotilla expected to sail into the Balmain Sailing Club around 4pm.
