Husband didn’t notice wife fell off sailboat until hours later

A Rhode Island woman fell off her husband's sailboat during a daylong outing — but it took him hours to realize she was overboard in Narragansett Bay, according to reports.
The US Coast Guard and the Bristol Fire Department's marine unit rescued the woman early Saturday after she apparently had fallen off the 39-foot boat, Algeria, the previous afternoon, the Providence Journal reported.
The man told police he thought his wife was below deck and that he had struck the Pell Bridge after running the vessel aground on Conimicut Point, Coast Guard Petty Officer Sam Van Lent said.
The husband told officers that the last time he had seen his wife was in the early afternoon Friday.
"The story's a little cloudy," Van Lent told the paper.
