BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR PACIFIC YANKEE
Drew Freides and Bill Ruhs Pacific Yankee won the Melges IC37 Lauderdale Cup hosted by Lauderdale Yacht Club January 23-26. Pacific Yankee was helmed by Freides for the second event of the Winter Series after Ruh brought home a first at the Fall Cup. Of course, the pressure was on after Bill won the first event, said Freides. I had to live up to his expectations.


WINNER'S DEBRIEF: NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Member's Only mainsail trimmer, Brian Kinney, was interviewed by Sailing World about what it takes to compete in this new one-design class. The Members Only syndicate, formed by Jay Cross, Hannah Swett and Brian Kinney, won the Melges IC37 National Championship back in September.

Congratulations to Chris Andert, winner of the second event of the MC Scow Triple Crown Series. Andert's win was powered by a new MC and North Sails Z-Max Main. The final event of the series is the Midwinter Championship March 12-14!

FLAT STANLEY WINS FORT LAUDERDALE TO KEY WEST RACE
Terry McSweeney and Trey Sheehans Melges 32, Flat Stanley, was the first PHRF boat to finish the Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race, crossing the finish line in 17 hours, 25 minutes to win the division overall. Flat Stanley was also the third monohull to finish the race and their crew member, Nick Ward, won the top navigator award.

WINTER SERIES EVENT 2: GULARI WINS AS CLASS CONTINUES TO GROW
B ora Gulari and his Melges 24 team put on a light air show winning three of the six races, only dropping a sixth to take top honors. Reigning Melges 24 Corinthian U.S. National Champion Steve Suddath at the helm of 3 ½ Men topped the all-amatuer division charts, placing seventh overall.

RUSSIAN RE-MATCH AT WINTER SERIES
After NIKA won a tiebreak over Russian Bogatyrs in December, the Melges 20s are back for the second Winter Series event February 7-9. This event serves as the 2020 North American World League kickoff.
