Guy Chester named as recipient of the Australian Trophy

Awardees being selected by the Australian Regional Rear Commodores, the Australian Trophy recognises a meritorious voyage made by an Australian member or members which starts or finishes in Australia.

In 2020, Guy was completing his circumnavigation aboard his catamaran Sanctuary. Whilst crossing the Pacific, Guy certainly had an interesting journey, negotiating the pandemic response of nations along the way. He wrote about his journey as a Roving Rear Commodore and was a significant influencer of government decisions, helping the cruising community survive the trials, restrictions, and nuances associated with Covid.

Soon after arriving in Australia to complete a presale refit of Sanctuary, Guy flew to New Zealand to complete a major refit of his new trimaran, Ocean's Tribute. His 8000-mile mostly solo sail from New Zealand to Africa has set him up for further adventures which I am sure we will be hearing about over the year to come.

Guy, who is an elected member of the General Committee, is currently racing his trimaran in the Caribbean. He also serves as the Members Global Support Network representative for the Indo-Pacific region and has been steadily building OCC's resources in the region. He was one of the recipients of the OCC Award in 2020 for his work in assisting the cruising community during Covid. Guy is the Director of EcoSustainAbility, providing environmental and sustainable tourism/ecotourism consulting worldwide.
