Ewincher has recently introduced their new electric winch handle - Ewincher SE, which stands for Special Edition. At a first glance it's difficult to find the difference from Ewincher 2, but somehow the price is considerably lower. Let's look at the main features of the new Ewincher SE compared to Ewincher 2!
There are four key differences between the Ewincher SE and the Ewincher 2 electric winch handle:
1) Speed: The new Ewincher SE winch handle operates at a lower speed of 83 rpm compared to Ewincher 2's 110 rpm, however, the power is the same.
2) Rotation: Unlike the 2021 Ewincher 2 model the 2023 Special Edition does not feature the automatic rotation direction switch (to prompt the winch gear change), it has to be activated manually by pressing a button.
3) Accessories: The new Ewincher SE does not include the same accessories as Ewincher 2 - no hard carrying case, pocket handle, security leash or the 12V inverter. The Ewincher SE pack does include the Ewincher SE with battery, charging cable and a simple/soft carrying bag.
4) Price: The above differences result in a retail price 20% below the Ewincher 2, making the product affordable for more customers.
What are the advantages of Ewincher SE?
Ewincher SE can be used in manual, electric or combined mode, which you may find useful if you just need some power assistance operating your winch. It is just as powerful as the Ewincher 2 with 90 Nm allowing you to trim the sails even on a high load in heavy weather.
The battery is powerful enough to survive a day's sailing and can be quickly and easily replaced for a charged one. The rotation speed of Ewincher SE associated with its high torque gives it a powerful performance on both speeds of the winch.

Benefits of electric winch handles
Electric winch handles appeared as an alternative solution to electric winches allowing you to get immediate assistance while operating the winches. Electric winches require space inside the boat together with a complex installation process and also come at a relatively high cost.
A single Ewincher can be used on all of your winches, it fits in a pocket and can also be used as a manual winch handle. Compared to some other electric winch handles on the market the Ewincher has an advantage of a replaceable battery that can be quickly and easily swapped out for a freshly charged spare battery.
Powered winch handles can be very useful for those who sail short-handed. It is suitable for a number of tasks, including hoisting and trimming the sails, hauling a crew member up the mast, furling a genoa or lifting a dinghy onboard.
If you are looking for an affordable solution without the hassle of installing electric winches, a motorized winch handle may be the right choice for you!
