With the opening of Barcolana Village along the Rive and the new Village in Borgo Cavana, Barcolana57 presented by Generali enters its full swing: the great sailing festival illuminates Trieste with hundreds of events, exhibitions, meetings and shows.

At sea, the third edition of Barcolana Maxi - Portopiccolo Trophy has commenced, reserved for hulls over 16 metres, organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with Yacht Club Portopiccolo. The first day of racing off Sistiana saw a light breeze accompany five maxi yachts in the first inshore race, whilst awaiting the completion of the fleet on the occasion of the trial on the Barcolana course scheduled for Friday. Meanwhile, on land, at the Generali Convention Centre the fifth edition of Barcolana Sea Summit was inaugurated, the international forum dedicated to sustainability and maritime culture, which also witnessed the opening of the 2025-2026 Academic Year of the United World College of the Adriatic, underlining the connection between education, research and international cooperation. From tomorrow the boats will compete in a coastal trial towards Trieste, a prelude to Friday's final race along the Barcolana course. Meanwhile, anticipation grows for Sunday's grand regatta, with already over 1,600 entries and a festive atmosphere spreading throughout the city.

Barcolana Maxi - Portopiccolo Trophy - Five Maxis took to the water today for the third edition of Barcolana Maxi Portopiccolo Trophy, the trial dedicated to hulls over 16 metres in length organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano in partnership with Yacht Club Portopiccolo. The morning owners' briefing initiated the organisational machinery followed at 1 PM by the start of the first and only trial of the day - conducted with an unexpected light wind blowing at an average of approximately 6 knots - with a trapezoid course and downwind finish in front of Portopiccolo. First to cross the finish line, in 2 hours and 18 minutes, was Nice of the Fiamme Gialle followed by Anywave and Pegaso; on corrected time the classification sees Anywave in first place, followed by Nice and Nightshadow. Tomorrow Barcolana Maxi - Portopiccolo Trophy will conduct a coastal regatta leading the crews to Trieste's mooring, where on Friday - together with the crews of Barcolana Adriatic Solaris Cup - the final trial will take place along the Barcolana course. The trials are conducted with ORC compensation.

Barcolana Fun: Masterclass with Francesco Cappuzzo at SVBG - In the afternoon, at the headquarters of Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, the athletes of SVBG and XIII had the opportunity to participate in a genuine clinic on the Wing Foil discipline with an instructor of absolute calibre. Two-time world champion and world vice-champion in the IWSA discipline, Francesco Cappuzzo - who conquered Barcolana FUN just a few days ago - accompanied the athletes in a day combining theory and practice on land, from technique to regulations, from racing strategies to optimal equipment preparation with exercises and examples in SVBG's external area.

Barcolana Sea Summit - The fifth edition of Barcolana Sea Summit was officially inaugurated at the Generali Convention Centre, in the presence of regional authorities and representatives from the scientific world. Within the framework of the ceremony, the opening of the 2025-2026 Academic Year of the United World College of the Adriatic also took place, in the presence of president Roberto Antonione and rector Khalid El-Metaal: a moment of great symbolic and international value, which reaffirmed the importance of education as an instrument of peace, cooperation and environmental protection.

"It is a great honour to be here today," declared Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano president Mitja Gialuz, "at a moment that unites two realities profoundly connected in values and vision of the future such as Barcolana and the United World College of the Adriatic. We wanted to inaugurate together the Barcolana Sea Summit and the opening of the College's new academic year because we share the same principles: freedom, peace and sustainability. Over the years, Barcolana Sea Summit has grown to become a genuine platform for dialogue and content, dedicated especially to young people, to the new generations who today more than ever are called to take up the challenge of protecting the planet. There is an article of our Constitution, number 9, which was recently modified to establish environmental protection in the interest of future generations. And it is precisely to you, students, that we look as a symbol of this future: you are the concrete proof that an international community can build sustainability and cooperation."

The day was completed with the European workshop "Blue Economy: research and selection of personnel in Europe with EURES", dedicated to training and employment opportunities in maritime sectors.

Tomorrow the day will continue with a rich calendar of meetings at GCC: at 10:00 in Hack hall the Carabinieri conference on the "One Health" model, which explores the connection between health, environment and society; at 4:00 PM in Illy hall the ARPA FVG panel on underwater noise and marine environment protection. At 5:30 PM, the Generali Auditorium will host the theatrical performance "Fiumi Scomparsi" with Marco Paolini, Paolo Fresu and Rajeev Badhan, an artistic journey between music, images and memory dedicated to Trieste's relationship with its lost waters.

Borgo Cavana - The pulsing heart of the city, Borgo Cavana returns as protagonist of Barcolana with a project that unites culture, music and creativity. The neighbourhood's streets transform into a great distributed village, between exhibitions, shows and workshops, thanks to collaboration with Casa della Musica and local merchants. From Thursday to Sunday the calendar proposes events for everyone: from Adriano Giraldi's "Maldobrie" to concerts by DANKA and Swing à la Carte, from upcycling and furoshiki workshops to performances by Maxino and Flavio Furian. The days will culminate on Sunday 12 October with the musical evening Sagravana, a sonic journey between soul, blues and singer-songwriter music that will close the week of celebration in the heart of Trieste.

Sailing at the centre: the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour meets Barcolana - The World Tour of Ship Amerigo Vespucci and the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour are among the protagonists of the 57th edition of Barcolana. The project "Vespucci World Tour and Villaggio Italia" returns to Trieste with a dedicated area in Piazza Unità d'Italia, where the public can discover the enterprise that is bringing Italian excellence to the world. On Friday 10 October at 3:30 PM, during the meeting "Sailing at the centre: the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour meets Barcolana", an important innovation will be announced: from 2026 the regatta "Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Il Veloce", the longest in the Mediterranean, will conclude precisely in Trieste on the occasion of the 58th Barcolana. The panel will feature representatives from the Marina Militare, Difesa Servizi, Barcolana, the Ministry of Tourism, the Italian Sailing Federation and SSI Sport & Events, with moderation by RAI journalist and sailor Giulio Guazzini. An appointment that celebrates sailing as a symbol of connection, development and sustainability along Italian routes.

The boats of legality - Eight "boats of legality" from the Italian Naval League, sailing vessels confiscated from organised crime and dedicated to victims of mafia and terrorism, have arrived in Trieste to participate in Barcolana 57. The vessels are part of the "Mare di Legalità" project, an LNI initiative launched in 2024 with support from President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, which promotes education in legality, social inclusion and environmental protection through sailing. The presentation event, "Mare di Legalità at Barcolana", will take place on Thursday 9 October at 12:30 PM at the Trieste headquarters of the Naval League. During the week, the boats will be protagonists of activities with local associations dedicated to disability, will participate in the Owners' Regatta and will take part in Barcolana on Sunday 12 October, bringing a message of legality and solidarity to sea. This year's innovation includes guided visits to the Lanterna lighthouse, historic headquarters of Trieste's LNI, organised with FAI until 11 October.

Barcolana un Mare di Racconti - The literary festival "Barcolana - Un mare di racconti" continues, bringing great names in international narrative to Trieste. Among the scheduled guests are Mircea Cartarescu, Antonio Moresco, Sandrone Dazieri and Orso Tosco, followed by Ben Pastor and Marco Balzano, concluding with Jan Brokken, Maylis de Kerangal and Emanuele Trevi. The festival thus confirms itself as a premier cultural appointment in the Barcolana panorama, capable of interweaving the sea and the written word.

Education: Rosolen, Barcolana Chef Junior Bridge between School and Work - Barcolana Chef Junior is born, the new contest promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region for students of institutes and professional training entities in the restaurant sector. Scheduled for Friday 10 October at Porto San Rocco, the event will offer students the opportunity to attempt the preparation of a dish inspired by the sea and Barcolana sardines. As assessor Alessia Rosolen emphasised, the initiative represents a genuine bridge between school and work, valorising talent, creativity and sustainability in a sector rich with opportunities.

Tal-Concert in Grotta Gigante - Siot-Tal, with organisational support from Casa della Musica, offered yesterday the second edition of TAL-Concert in Barcolana, the "deepest concert in the world" hosted on the majestic and unusual stage of Grotta Gigante. The numerous audience experienced an experience, in the "heart of the earth", capable of uniting music, culture and territory, thanks to the evening's protagonist Marco Castelli, internationally renowned saxophonist and composer, who guided the audience in an evocative sonic journey between jazz, theatre and acoustic experimentation, in perfect harmony with the natural environment of the karst cavity.
