Firefly Ladies Champs at Rickmansworth Sailing Club

by Belinda Kerridge 12 Jun 2003 10:47 UTC 7 June 2009

Six boats turned up at Rickmansworth kitted with various attire to compete in the Ladies National (Sunbathing) Championships on Saturday 7th June. What started as a bit of a chilly spring morning developed into a scorcher, and as the sun came out, the thermals came off. The race officer set three complicated but excellent courses. The shifty wind produced interesting racing with all six boats changing position and clothing combinations regularly.

In the first race Edwards, Boreham and Morris all led at one time, however Morris and Kerridge were lucky enough to be in the lead as the course was shortened.

The sun continues to shine - in fact several bikinis were seen at lunch time, and shorts and T-shirts were the order of the day afloat. In the 2nd race, after an extremely shifty 1st beat which saw most of the fleet leading at some point, Morris led convincingly to claim the title for the 2nd year running, and the right to sunbathe in race 3.

Race 3 action on the water saw the three top places reversed at the top mark with Boreham coming out in front closely followed by Edwards sisters then local boat Amy Stamp and Lou Necker.
