by Richard Gladwell/Sail-World.com/nz on 26 Sep 2014
Guinness World record practicing on the Lancer 20m SUP Charles Winstone
An attempt will be made on Saturday afternoon set set a new Guinness World Record mark for the most people on a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)

The SUP used for the record attempt will be supplied by leading New Zealand inflatable manufacturer, Lancer Industries, and the SUP uses Lancer's AirDock technology..

The AirDock is an inflatable semi-rigid platform, typically used to form temporary docks for all manner of purposes from off the sterns of superyachts to being used off a beach or a lake. Any use that requires people to walk on water!

The course for the record attempt will be 100metres long and located in Auckland's Viaduct Harbour, outside Emirates Team New Zealand and finishing outside the Auckland International Boat Show.

The official count of paddlers will take place at 2.50pm on Saturday, with the attempt starting at 3.20pm under the supervision of Troy Huston.

In the event of a failed first attempt a second attempt will take place immediately, and there may be a third attempt if the record is not set on the first two attempts.

Lancer Industries, which has already set the record three times for the world’s largest RIB, and which holds the largest catamaran RIB tube record, has created the monster SUP which the record attempt will be staged on. At 20-metres long, the SUP will hold an estimated 52 participants led by Quiksilver SUP team rider, Troy Huston. Huston is the event director of the Jetts City Surf Series - the largest weekly SUP event in the Southern Hemisphere - as well as being the first person to SUP to Great Barrier Island, and will be on hand to ensure everyone onboard, stays onboard.

The world-record bid not only promises to provide great entertainment for show goers, but will also raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation. The Child Cancer Foundation aims to reduce the impact of cancer by offering support services 365 days of the year, ensuring children and their families are supported, informed and well cared for at every stage of their journey.

Lancer, a family-owned company, is the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest inflatable manufacturer and will also have a display range of RIBS and other products at the show.

The Auckland On Water Boat Show runs from 25 to 28 September in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour and is New Zealand’s only on-water boat show. Catering for all on-water passions and providing hundreds of experts ready to share their knowledge with you, this is the place to get set for a summer on the water.

The Auckland On The Water Boat Show runs on Saturday and Sunday, with the doors opening at the Viaduct Events Centre at 10.00am on a range of indoor and on the water exhibits and boats.

See the Sail-World.com stand located on Level 1 in the Viaduct Events Centre - we're running a variety of video from last week's ISAF Worlds in Santander, Spain and also the Volvo Ocean Race on a big 50' screen.
