Vertigo - cruising Australian waters with Leo DiCaprio on board SW
Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly currently cruising on Vertigo, the Philippe Briand-designed 220ft (67.2m) ketch built by New Zealand's Alloy Yachts, their largest ever yacht. The magnificent yacht is apparently cruising somewhere off the coast of Australia, with DiCaprio the guest of the unnamed celebrity owner.
It's not a bad yacht. It has one of the most impressive interior design schemes on water courtesy of French designer Christian Liaigre, a bastion of good taste whose clients include Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld and Rupert Murdoch.
Liaigre was briefed to create an 'urban at sea' environment for the interior of the sleek craft, which was launched in February this year in New Zealand.
Not only is Vertigo the largest yacht ever to be built by the New Zealand shipyard, but at 837 GRT, she is also the largest yacht ever to be built in the Southern Hemisphere. Construction started in October 2008.
Briand, the noted naval architect, designed the high-performance sailing yacht to be capable of 20 knots and comfortable world cruising as well. The craft features a custom aluminum hull and superstructure along with carbon fiber spars and standing rigging, as well as a 223-ft. main mast and a 205-ft. mizzen.
Accommodations include five staterooms centered on a massive owner’s suite and a convertible gym. Altogether is houses 12 guests along with 11 crew.
A 26 ft. limousine tender is fitted for excursions as well.
Plenty of room for whatever Leonardo has in mind.
