Tony and Coryn Gooch, honourary members of BCA, have sailed oceans together for over 50 years and Tony, after two solo circumnavigations, has sailed over 160,000 nautical miles.
They started offshore cruising from Toronto in 1971 in a 29 foot French built sloop called Maistral in which they logged over 60,000 miles in a series of trips across the Atlantic to the UK, to the Baltic, south to the Med, across to the Caribbean, through the Panama and up to Victoria. From Victoria they sailed north to the Aleutians and south to Cape Horn.
In 1996 they bought a 42 foot aluminum boat they named Taonui. They're looking forward to sharing their video of the trip they made in 1996/97 after buying Taonui and sailing her from England, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and down to Antarctica. They learned many lessons on this very challenging but beautiful trip—this is real ocean voyaging!
Tony is internationally recognized for his record setting, non-stop solo circumnavigation from Victoria in 177 days in 2003. Coryn's help with weather information and encouragement was essential to Tony's success.
