Maritime Trail 2022
After the success of the first ever Maritime Trail in April 2021, the Australian Wooden Boat Festival team are presenting the event again, on 9th and 10th April 2022.
This year the program will include tours of boatyards, short workshops and other activities. The motivation for the event is to promote the wooden boat industry and to celebrate the craftsmen and women behind the wooden boats. The majority of the events in the 2022 program are in the Huon Valley and the Channel regions, encouraging ticket holders to not only attend their selected event, but to also pop into the local coffee shop and visit the corner store.
The entire event has been designed around being covid safe and all efforts have been made to ensure the safety of ticket holders, operators, volunteers and staff.
Full program and tickets available 1st March 2022.
Join us once again to celebrate wooden boats around Tasmania.
Workshops
The Maritime Trail 2022 will see the introduction of a series of workshops, some spread over two-days and some short and sweet over two hours.
Spend a day learning from some of the best in the business, using uniquely Tasmanian timbers and high quality materials to build yourself an item using hand tools The workshops will include items like knot key rings, wooden mallets and piner's punt models, as well as include some artistic workshops featuring nautical photography, painting and maritime writing.
Tours
Welcome back to our behind the scenes tours of some of the most productive and aesthetically pleasing boatyards in the southern hemisphere. Follow the journey through our backyard, places we at the AWBF perhaps take for granted. Be guided by the skilled operators of these boatyards and learn about what drives them to continue the art of boat building.
The Maritime Trail 2022 will invite you into Ned Trewartha's Shed, Cygnet Wooden Boats, Wooden Boat Centre, Wilson's Boatyard, Dave's Shed and excitingly invite you inside the famous historical vessel Cartela.
The full program of events will be available from 1st March 2022 - www.awbf.org.au
Family activities
The Living Boat Trust are welcoming you back again for two full days packed full of activities for all members of the family. Head down to the banks of the Huon river and test out your rowing skills in one of their many small row boats, or jump onboard one of their sailing vessels to learn the ropes, or simply sit back and relax in 105 year old Nancy.
The not-for-profit group have spent years restoring and maintaining small wooden vessels and often host school rowing days, (the volunteers certainly do love sharing their passion for the water). This activity was a great success last Maritime Trail (despite the poor weather), and our donated AWBF lifejackets looked fab.
Bring the kids, grandkids, nan and pop, simply buy your ticket on the day and get out on the water. We look forward to hopefully creating some new maritime enthusiasts.
Tickets available on site Saturday and Sunday - just turn up!
