Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series St. Petersburg - Day 1

by Sarah Renz 18 Feb 2023 15:03 UTC February 17-19, 2023

The 2023 Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series St. Petersburg got off to a spectacular start for the opening races of the three-day national sailing series taking place on Tampa Bay.

With race teams from across the country enjoying the best of the sunshine and breeze on Friday, four races were completed before competitors returned to shore for a special presentation by America's Cup skipper and world champion sailor Terry Hutchinson.

Nearly 40 more boats will join the regatta on Saturday and Sunday for the event's distance races, which will send teams on long and challenging courses around Tampa Bay before returning to finish off the St. Petersburg Pier in the late afternoon.

Live music, dancing and friendly games of indoor pickleball will close out the race day at St. Petersburg Yacht Club before the final race day for all competitors on Sunday. All 275 boats will parade past the Pier before the 10am start on Saturday and Sunday for two more days of pristine conditions of the pinnacle kickoff event of the season.

Detailed race information and results are posted on the Sailing World race website here.
