World ARC 2023-24 - Niue round-up

by World Cruising Club 3 Jun 03:46 UTC

Having battled the swells and mastered the wharf, participants of the World ARC 2023-24 fleet were able to see the natural beauty of Niue in its finest form.

Enjoyed by all, Niue will no doubt be remembered for the rest of the circumnavigation as one of the friendliest countries, coupled with having the clearest water in the Pacific. Highlights included the Limu Pools, Mapta Chasm and Talava Arches - just some of the stops that the participants visited on their Niue Orientation Tour (weather dependant).

Whilst staying in Niue, sailors were invited to sundowner drinks overlooking the mooring field at Manuiz Bar. This was before quickly moving on to the World ARC hosted meal at the Scenic Matavai Hotel. We were very pleased for representative of the Niue Yacht Club, Niue Blue and the Niue Tourism Office to join our tables and share their insights on Niue and its diverse nature and marine life.

A trip to Niue under sail would of course not complete without facing the Wharf and its unique dinghy lift. The trepidatious journey ashore is of course well worth the reward, but at first that does not make the process any less daunting – especially if you have turned up to Niue with swells…! The lift, character building for any dinghy, is also sure to live on in the memory of the fleet as they continue their journey west.

The fleet has almost all regrouped in Tonga having completed the 230nm journey from Niue, the official World ARC Programme is set to commence on Monday once all boats have finished checking in.
