2023 ARC+ Leg 2 at sea fleet update - Day 6

by World Cruising Club 23 Nov 2023 09:08 UTC

Those boats who opted for a southerly route are enjoying more consistent breeze than those choosing a more direct course, the forecast is looking promising for the trade winds to fill in by the weekend. Updates from the fleet over the past couple of days have mainly focused on the light fickle winds and varying degrees of fishing successes.

Cats Pajamas enjoyed a two-hour battle with a fish (which they decided may have been a shark!), even dropping the sails and reversing to try and help reel it in, ultimately the line broke. Cassini have been particularly successful at vegetarian fishing - reeling in some good lumps of seaweed! Along with the occasional fish. On Blue Wonder the fishing successes have been marred by the mysterious disappearance of a one-liter bottle of soy sauce... Northern Light didn't manage to land a fish yesterday, but some freshly baked focaccia made up for the lack of sashimi.

Crews are keeping busy in the light winds by doing a bit of baking, Valent have made orange and raisin cupcakes and orange and mango chutney, and Ed the Iguana on Blue Wonder has been enjoying freshly baked pancakes! Cassini on the other hand did their laundry...

The crew on Valent also took advantage of the light winds, by taking a mid ocean dip, by luck stopping atop the summit of a 3000M peak, but they were still out of their depth by a mere 2000M or so! The water was a balmy 28 degrees!

Yacht Hilma are heading back to Cape Verde having lost their rig. All are safe onboard, with no injuries. Fellow ARC+ ralliers Blue Wonder, Aquita and Aratui have assisted by providing fuel.
