Picnic days to grand adventures aboard a Talaria 43

Two-time Hinckley owners share their favorite destinations, the boating tricks they've picked up through the years, and where they're headed next.

Beverly Farms, Massachusetts

Boat owners since 1990, Joe and Mary Carlucci know their way around the Northeastern waters. When they set out to purchase their first Hinckley, Senior Business Advisor Phil Bennett asked them, "What do you want to do on the boat?" Mostly day trips and picnics, responded the Carluccis. In came their Picnic Boat 37, My Three Sons III, which served their family beautifully for many years. But then the couple retired, and as Joe puts it, "two days for boating became seven days for boating." Translation: They needed a bigger boat, so they reached back out to Bennett. "We told him we have more time, we have six grandchildren, and we want to do some overnighters," says Joe. And that's how My Three Sons IV, their new Talaria 43, joined the family. They spent their first summer on it last year, and are now patiently counting down the days until it's warm enough to begin the second season.

Name Game

"With our first Grady-White, we had two sons at the time, Patrick and Nicholas, so we named that boat Patnic. Then we had Ryan, so we named the next boat My Three Sons. Someone told us once that if you purchase a new boat, you should keep the name, so our next boat was My Three Sons II. And once we got the Hinckley Picnic Boat, we christened it My Three Sons III. And now our Talaria 43 is My Three Sons IV."

Recent Trips

"Last summer, we put 162 hours on the new boat. We took it to Martha's Vineyard, down to Marion, and to Cuttyhunk for the Hinckley event (see page 38). We've been up to Kennebunkport twice, and we love Cape Ann — the Cape Cod of the North Shore. It's also fun to take the boat into Boston for lunch."

Our Happy Place

"The backside of Crane's Beach in Ipswich is our favorite destination. It's only accessible by boat so it's really private. You go into a little river and around the bay, and it's all sand dunes and clean, beautiful water. It's just idyllic. We anchor and have a picnic on the boat —either at the table in the aft or on the swim platform if it's a warm and sunny day."

Favorite Meal

"A lobster roll and a glass of wine. We like to take the boat to Roy Moore in Rockport and pick up our lobster rolls — they're the best on the North Shore, as far as we're concerned. We've been going there for years and years."

Signature Sips

"It's got to be white wine in the summer. Our favorite is Far Niente Chardonnay — it's great with a lobster roll!"

Game Changer

"Hinckley's Seakeeper and Dockhold technologies are unbelievable. If you have Seakeeper going and you're out on choppy water, it keeps the boat completely flat and it's smooth sailing. And Dockhold© is incredible. When you're docking a big boat, you've got to worry about the tide, the current, and the wind. But with Dockhold, none of that matters. I just back the boat into our slip and press one button — it removes all of the anxiety and Mary doesn't even have to help me anymore."

On The 2025 Docket

"Cuttyhunk is definitely on our list, and we'll probably go to Nantucket. We also want to go further north, up into Maine. We keep all our stuff on the boat so we don't have to pack. We look at the 10-day forecast and if we see several good days ahead, we just fuel up, make sure we've got some sandwiches and some cheese, and off we go."
