2019-20 World ARC: Prizegiving in the Galapagos

The World ARC crews are now back together in Puerto Ayora on the island of Santa Cruz, Galapagos, for the final week of their Galapagos programme. Aside from the necessary preparations which must take place before their next long passage to the Marquesas Islands, such as provisioning and refuelling, the crews have been on land and boat excursions and many diving trips. What the crews have seen has been truly memorable.
On Monday we held the Skippers Briefing for Leg 4, from Santa Cruz in Galapagos to Hiva Oa in Marquesas. Just after, crews got together at Café Hernan and over a drink the winners for the leg from Panama to Galapagos were announced. Results for Leg 3 can be checked in here.
Position prizes have been awarded randomly with boat names being pulled out from the hat. We were honoured to have the Port Captain from Santa Cruz, Cpt Delgado, to help presenting the very local prizes. Prizes were awarded for some fun competitions, such as guessing arrival time in Galapagos and also the total of the first five boats' rally numbers across the start line. From guessed the closest of the boats' numbers was Joe and his crew on Charm, and on the ETA Competition was the crew from Manihi. A special prize for providing the most comfortable cockpit cushions for the local fauna was Chao Lay, and this video can be watched here.
The Equator Photo Competition was decided on World ARC Facebook page, and the winner with more 'likes' was Nikitoo.
Individual prizes awarded to Nevil on RAID the biggest fish caught, and Gemma on Aurora B for organising a ladies' night out.
As you may remember, the World ARC fleet introduced the 'Lucky Blue Jacket' to be awarded after each leg. And this time, Rob & Jo from Tintin, winners of the jacket on the last leg offered five nominations and this leg's winner was sWEeT Dream, for their resilience in the face of the torrential rain experienced in San Cristobal.
The night came to a close with a great three course meal crew supper at Il Giardino Restaurant.
